Polycom Configuration for a Static IP Address

Aptela recommends that you use DHCP for the phone's network configuration (see our Polycom configuration guides). That aside, sometimes it is necessary to assign static IP Addresses.

Before getting started…

  • Make sure the correct phone MAC Address is assigned to the appropriate extension.
  • Collect the following information about your network configuration.  If necessary, ask your IT administrator for it.
    • IP Address  to assign to the phone.
    • Subnet Mask.
    • IP Gateway (typically this is the router’s IP).
    • DNS Server (you can often use your router’s IP Address here also).

Assigning the static IP Address:

  1. If the phone is on an idle screen, press the Menu button.
    • If the phone does not reach an idle screen, quickly press the Setup soft key when you see the Welcome screen, type in 456 for the password and press Enter.  Then go to step 7.
  2. Choose 3 – Settings.
  3. Choose 2 – Advanced.
  4. Type in the password 456 and press Enter.
  5. Choose 1 – Admin Settings.
  6. Choose 1 – Network Configuration.
  7. Press Edit to change the DHCP Client.
  8. Press the arrow buttons until it changes to Disabled then press OK.  Now some areas that were grayed out will appear.
  9. Edit each of the following settings and type in the appropriate information based on your local network’s configuration (the info collected above).  NOTES: Use the * button for periods. Unless you are using VLANs, the VLAN setting must be blank.  Other settings should be left at their defaults.
    • Phone IP Address: type in information
    • Subnet Mask: type in information
    • IP Gateway: type in information
    • DNS Server: type in information
    • Example:

      DHCP: Disabled
      IP Address: 192.168.0.150
      Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
      IP Gateway: 192.168.0.1
      DNS Server: 192.168.0.1

  10. Once this data is entered, press the Back or Exit button until prompted to Save configuration or Reboot.  If the network data is correct the phone will go through the boot process and you will end with a working phone.

Troubleshooting:

  • Failed to get Boot Parameters via DHCP error:  Make sure the correct network data was entered.  Also verify that the Ethernet cables are plugged into the right jacks and are securely connected to the phone and network.
  • Duplicate IP error: Make sure the phone has a unique IP Address.
