Aptela VoIP users have the ability to change the timeout setting for their phone’s dial tone. This setting relieves a common troubleshooting issue – “When dialing a phone number, my phone’s dial tone times out and jumps to a fast-busy tone.”
Use Cases
We have learned that there are three types of phone users – Pounders, Senders and Waiters
- Pounders – They pick up the phone, dial the number and hit the # key to immediately send the call.
- Senders – They enter the phone number and then pick up the phone to send the call.
- Waiters – They pick up the phone, start to dial a phone number and wait for the system to dial the phone number.
The “waiters” often run into an issue where pauses in entering the phone number may result in the dial tone "timing out" and returning a fast-busy tone. This requires that you try again.
Changing the Dial Tone Timeout
If this is a recurring issue, we recommend that you change your phone’s Dial Timeout setting. Increase the time that you have to enter a phone number. To do this:
- Login to the User Dashboard
- Click the My Account tab in the main navigation
- Click My Phones
- Click the Options link (see screen shot below)
- Click General Settings
- Next to Dial Timeout, change the setting to something higher – try 5 seconds (see screen shot below)
- Click Save
REMEMBER – if you now have too long of a delay after entering a phone number and before the call is connected, you can hit the # button to send the call immediately after entering the phone number.
