Federal, state and local governments regulate and tax the services provided by Aptela to our customers. As VoIP telephone service becomes mainstream, these governments and regulatory agencies are expanding traditional telephone service regulations, regulatory fees and taxes to services provided by VoIP companies like Aptela.
Federal, state and local regulatory fees, taxes and cost recovery fees include but are subject to change and include but are not limited to the following:
E911 Cost Recovery Fee
The e911 cost recovery fee is charged per e911 registered location/phone number on your account. We are mandated to provide e911 service by the Federal Government and this covers our cost of providing this capability.
Regulatory Cost Recovery Fee
The regulatory cost recovery fee is charged to help cover the cost for Aptela to comply with Federal, state and local regulatory requirements.
Universal Service Fund (USF) Fee
The Universal Service Fund Fee is mandated by the Federal government. The fee is assessed on eligible interstate and international telephony services and is subject to change on a quarterly basis as determined by the Federal government. Aptela collects and remits these fees to the Universal Service Fund on a monthly basis.
State and Local Communication, Universal Service and E911 taxes
Taxes and regulatory fees vary state and/or local jurisdiction. These taxes and fees are typically levied to fund state and local programs and services. Aptela collects and remits these taxes and fees to the government appropriate entity on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis.
