If you are currently using a Remote Call Forward (RCF) service with your existing carrier and you would like to port the forwarding number to Aptela, your existing carrier must first change the forwarding number into a regular phone number. RCF numbers are not associated with a physical address and cannot port to Aptela. This change must be done prior to submitting the porting request to Aptela.
To setup RCF
- Verify that your Aptela account, phone and auto-attendant are properly set up and that you can receive and transfer calls.
- Request your existing carrier to "Remote Call Forward with multiple paths" to ensure that all calls are forwarded to your temporary number.
- Important Notes:
- RCF must be completed before you submit the porting request to Aptela because most providers require that there should be no open service requests on the account in order to complete Remote Call Forwarding.
- An important point with RCF service is to request that it is provided with a desired number of multiple paths. The multiple paths enable you to receive simultaneous calls without your callers experiencing a busy signal. To determine the number paths you should request, consider the number of simultaneous calls you expect to receive and the total talk time for each call.
- Consult with your provider on additional charges for and the time to set up this service.
- After the RCF service is established, submit the porting forms to Aptela to port your phone number(s) from the existing provider.
Until the port to Aptela is completed, you will need to maintain RCF service with your existing provider and use Aptela temporary numbers.
