Menus, also referred to as "Call Trees", greet callers and provide them with options to choose to reach their destination. A menu might sound like this:
"Thank you for calling ABC Company. Press 1 to dial by extension, Press 2 to dial by name, Press 3 for Sales, Press 4 for Customer Service. "
Many companies will build unique menus to greet callers during different times of the day: during business hours, lunch time, after hours, on holidays, etc. A Main Menu, default experience, was created for you by Aptela to get started. You may edit this menu or select Add New to create new menus. You may create as many menus as you think you will need.
To build the Attendant Menu:
- Login to Aptela as admin
- Click the tab Phone Numbers
- Click the tab Menus
- To edit an existing menu: Use the drop down menu to choose the menu to edit. If this is your first time logging in to Aptela, Main Menu will be your only option.
- To create a new menu, click Add New

When building or editing a menu, there are four elements:
- Pre-Menu Transfer: This option will immediately transfer incoming calls to an extension or department. One example is a company who wishes a receptionist to answer the phone and have the auto attendant play only if the receptionist is busy or away.
- Greeting: This is a message that greets incoming callers. This message plays before the routing instructions. (example: "Thank you for calling ABC Company.")
- Main Menu: This is the routing menu, also called "Call Tree", presented to incoming callers. Here you will create options for the caller. (example: "Press 1 to dial by name, Press 2 to dial by extension")
- Post-Menu Transfer: After the greeting and main menu plays, you may wish the caller to be sent to an extension or department.
